The commanding Hatshepsut, who reigned as Pharoah during the 18th Dynasty of ancient Egypt, was considered one of the most successful Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt. She initially ruled alongside the young Thutmose III, after his father, Thutmose II, passed on. As Hatshepsut was the chief wife of Thutmose II, her position in the hierarchy of power was favorable. Not content to rule alongside a two-year-old boy, Hatshepsut took matters into her own hands. She utilized her impeccable bloodline, her deep understanding of religion, and her beneficial education to rise to power, becoming the sole Pharoah of Egypt. Even more impressively, Hatshepsut was only the second woman in history to rule as Pharoah. Thutmose III succeeded Hatshepsut as Pharoah after her reign ended. Hatshepsut’s legacy is so impactful that she is known as "the first great woman in the history of whom we are informed” according to Egyptologist James Breasted.
