Historical Significance
Born in 1767, Black Hawk was a highly influential war band leader and orator of the Sauk tribe. He became famously known for his fierce resistance against the forced westward expansion of settlers across ancestral lands. This culminated in the historic Black Hawk War of 1832. He remains one of the most prominent symbols of Native American strength, legacy, and defiance in American history.
