Coin Highlights:
This is the 6th release of St. Helena Spade Guinea Coins and is the 4th issue of the 1/10 oz weight. This coin is a modern interpretation of a historic gold coin that was used in the late 18th century at the height of the United Kingdom’s global power. This coin gained its name due to the shield being in the shape of a spade as well as the gold it contained originating from modern-day Guinea.
The obverse field of 2023 St. Helena Silver Spade Guinea Shield Coins features the effigy of King Charles III. The King is shown in left-profile relief, the opposite direction that the queen was normally facing. Identifying marks of the coin surround this image.
The reverse of 2023 1/10 oz Silver Spade Guinea Shield Coins will feature the Spade Guinea Shield design. This shield is split into quarters and features the seals of England, Scotland, Ireland, France, and the coat of arms of the House of Hanover.
